CANTON -- Hugh C. Williams high school will host “The Pajama Game” Friday, March 15 and Saturday, March 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium.
The plot is set in the early 1950’s at the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where Vernon Hines (Zach Barnes) pushes the workers to churn out pajamas at a backbreaking pace.
The workers’ union, led by Prez (Justin Sosebee), is seeking a wage raise of seven and a half cents an hour but the company president Myron Hasler (Jacob Gallop) won’t budge. The factory has just hired a new factory superintendent named Sid Sorokin (Jay Kepes).
Sorokin meets the grievance committee chair, Babe Williams (Anna Tulloch) and is instantly attracted to her. Williams tries to reject Sorokin’s advances, but they fall in love despite being on opposite sides of the wage dispute.
Hines is in love with Hasler’s secretary Gladys Hotchkiss (Rachel Horwitz). Sorokin’s secretary Mabel (Thressa Zimmerman) tries to help Hines break from his jealous ways.
The musical is based on the novel “7½ Cents” by Richard Bissell and features a score by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross.
Ticket prices will be $10 for adults and $7 for students and seniors. Tickets will be available in the high school office or at the door.
