CANTON -- The seventh annual indoor Canton Community Sale will be Aug. 24 this year at the Canton Pavilion.

Vendors “bring everything,” said Sally Hill, executive director at the Canton Chamber of Commerce. “One year there was a fortune teller,” although not this year, she said.

“Businesses have done like a sidewalk sale thing,” and antiques, collectibles, moccasins, garage sale items, and costume jewelry are among the offerings expected this year, she said.

“It’s not just Canton people, we are getting people from all over,” she said. “People live out of the way

The indoor sale will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a snack bar available. Hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and soda will be available, and a rotary chicken barbeque will be held around 11 a.m.

“You never know with an outdoor garage sale, if it rains and you don’t have a garage...” Hill said. “They can drive in and set up” and shoppers “don’t have to worry about the weather.” and don’t have a chance to have a garage sale.”

The Canton Chamber of Commerce will hold a drawing for an iPad and accessories. “It’s about $650,” with an iPad 3, carrying case, and protective cover, Hill said.

The day will be limited to a sale, with no other events planned, Hill said. “We tried that last year, we had a karate demonstration, and a jumpy house” but there “really aren’t a lot of kids,” she said.

“If you know anything about garage sales, they are in there early and they are pretty serious,” she said.

“It’s convenience to have it all under one roof,” Hill said.

The sale usually sees a “pretty steady stream all morning,” but the chamber doesn’t track exact numbers, since the event is free, she said.

“About half the arena is sold out already,” Hill said, but the chamber is still looking for more. A 15-foot by 15-foot space will be $20 for sellers, who can rent multiple spaces. Electricity will be available on a first-come-first-served basis.

Set up will begin Friday night from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday at 7 a.m.

To sign up call the chamber at 386-8255.
