CANTON — St. Lawrence University’s Center for Civic Engagement has begun organizing its annual “Kick It for a Cause” event and has selected this year’s beneficiary.

This year’s cause will benefit Zachary Hamilton, 12, of Canton. Hamilton is a seventh-grade student at Canton Central School who has been diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a cancerous tumor that grew from his adrenal glands on his left kidney.

The Kick It for a Cause event will take place on April 5, 2014 in Newell Field House from noon to 4 p.m. The main event is a Zumbathon fundraiser and will include other activities such as student activity booths and a silent auction.

The center is looking for groups to set up activity booths and donations for the silent auction and raffle.

The center is also seeking support for the Hamiltons’ travel this winter by sponsoring Miles for Zachary. The cause will help the family with gas, parking and their stay at the Ronald McDonald House.

Donations are being accepted online at http://www.youcaring.com/milesforzachary.

To participate in this year’s event as a sponsor, a volunteer and/or donate a basket or item for the silent auction, contact Johnson at 229-5095 or jjohnson@stlawu.edu.
