Campus Sustainability Day and Food Day on to be held on Clarkson campus Oct. 22, 23

POTSDAM -- Clarkson University is joining hundreds of institutions from across the country to celebrate Campus Sustainability Day and Food Day on Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 22 and 23.

Volunteers hit the trail for Campus Sustainability Day Wednesday morning to help with trail maintenance and trail marking in the Clarkson woods. Later that day, students can tour Clarkson's renewable energy park from noon to 1 p.m. Property on the east side of the Potsdam Municipal Airport includes a new 2-megawatt solar photovoltaic installation and Associate Professor of Mechanical & Aeronautical Engineering Ken Visser's wind turbine research site.

Posters illustrating sustainability initiatives will be displayed from noon to 5 p.m. in the Educational Resources Center (ERC) atrium. Projects highlighted include food waste collection, socially responsible investing, and the new solar photovoltaic array, as well as the Adirondack Semester and Devil's Thumb Ranch education programs.

Students who recently joined nearly 400,000 other peaceful demonstrations for climate change activism in New York City will gather from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Student Center Forum to share how they pushed for policies to adapt to a changing climate.

The students also will screen the 350.org documentary, "Disruption," which features some of the environmental movement's top leaders and calls for a public movement to address the climate crisis. This event is sponsored by the Environmental Conservation Organization.

Campus Sustainability Week continues as Clarkson celebrates National Food Day on Thursday, Oct. 23, with a Fall Harvest Local Foods Dinner. The campus community is invited to dine on a menu of local beef, chicken, produce, cheese and apples from 4:30 to 8 p.m. in Ross-Brooks Dining Hall. The cost of the dinner is $13.58 for those who are not on the meal plan.
