Cabaret performance “We The People” to be staged at UUC in Canton Monday night

CANTON -- A local group of artists is turning a nationwide day of performance protest into an evening focused on local talent and community engagement.

A cabaret performance, “We The People,” will be staged Monday, Feb. 20, at 7:30 p.m., at the Unitarian Universalist Church to celebrate community, showcase local talents and passions, and support community nonprofits.

“Emotions are running high following this historic election and inauguration,” says organizer Jennifer Thomas. “What better way to channel those emotions than by sharing them in performances of music, dance, poetry, and more while supporting St. Lawrence county non-profits?”

“We The People” performers include Lenore VanderZee, Samantha Stinson, Angie Sweigart-Gallagher, Cully Long, Rebecca Weld, students from SLU and SUNY Potsdam, and others.

In addition to the performances, local nonprofit organizations will be on hand to describe volunteer positions and opportunities for local activism and to receive donations or pledges.

If your organization would like to participate, please contact Rhonda Rodriguez at rrodrig@twcny.rr.com.

“We The People” is being organized by an independent group of local performance artists and activists.

The event is “Pay-What-You-Can,” and all proceeds will be donated to the non-profits participating in the event.

The church is located at 3 ½ E. Main St. Details and an updated performers list can be found at https://www.facebook.com/events/297298327353343/.
