Boys and Girls Club of Massena planning events through end of summer

MASSENA -- The following upcoming events will be held at the Boys & Girls Club of Massena at 30 Bayley Rd.

July 21 and 28 -- Every Friday Night through the month of July from 7-10 p.m. BGCM is hosting teen nights. There will be a dance with a DJ from Platinum Entertainment and refreshments Friday, July 21. Must be entering 7th-12th grade to participate

July 29 -- 2nd Annual Happy Dayz Car and Cycle Show at the St. Lawrence Center beginning at noon. All proceed will be donated to the Boys & Girls Club of Massena.

Aug 1 -- Citizen Science Project with Nature Up North, 3-5 p.m. Mapping Ash Trees, youth ages 12-18 are invited to participate in a local research project headed up by St. Lawrence University’s Nature Up North. They will map the locations of ash trees in St. Lawrence County, with a focus on those in communities near the St. Lawrence River, to facilitate monitoring the spread of emerald ash borer, an invasive beetle expected to impact local Ash species in coming years. Participants will learn to use a digital mapping app on iPADS. The goal of the project is to educate k-12 students and community members about invasive species and to provide hands on, meaningful opportunities to engage in Citizen Science. Participation is limited to the first 10 to RSVP. Email director@bgcmassena.org.

Aug 12th -- 2nd Annual North Country Jr. Olympics, to be held at the Massena Central School Turf from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. On-site registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. Kids 14 and younger are welcome to compete in track and field events with an Olympic-style awards ceremony for the top finishers in each event and age group. This is a free event, but donations to the Boys & Girls Club of Massena are appreciated.

Aug 23 and 25 -- Parent Information Nights at 6 p.m. Boys & Girls Club of Massena is kicking off this upcoming school year with their full-time program at the newly renovated and opened Clubhouse. The program will run afterschool until 6 pm for kids in kindergarten through 12th grade. Also, there will be opportunities for area youth to participate in specialized clubs, open mic nights and parent workshops. These informational nights are scheduled to provide parents with details on upcoming events and the afterschool program. Membership forms are required each year along with an annual $10 fee/member.

Aug 24 -- Volunteer training from 3-5 p.m. Interested in being part of the Boys & Girls Club of Massena? This event is scheduled for anyone interested in being a volunteer. Positive adults are welcome to be part of the action. Help with arts and crafts, sports and recreation, help with homework, play games, read stories, chaperone field trips. Help change lives and provide guidance to area youth.
