MASSENA – Massena native Adam McKeown, who has written adaptations of classic literature for children, will read from and sign copies of his books Saturday, Oct. 21, 2 p.m., at the North Country Showcase at St. Lawrence Centre.
McKeown is a 1986 graduate of Massena Central High School, earned his PhD at New York University, spent four years in the Marine Corps, was deployed twice in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, and taught classes in Shakespeare to soldiers stationed on the Horn of Africa.
In addition to scholarly works, he has authored adaptations for children including “The Young Reader's Shakespeare,” a series of Shakespeare’s plays, and an adaptation of Charles Dickens classic work, “A Christmas Carol.”

McKeown has taught at Clarkson University, Adelphi University, Princeton University, and is currently an associate professor of English at Tulane University in New Orleans where he lives with his wife and daughter. He is the son of Pat McKeown of Massena.
