BOCES offering medical terminology, computer skills, first aid classes in Massena, Norwood

St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES is offering medical terminology, computer skills and first aid classes this summer in Massena and Norwood.

The medical terminology course will focus on language and word formation necessary in many healthcare careers and will be offered at the Massena Library Tuesdays from 5 to 8:30 p.m. July 17 to Aug. 30, with a final course Thursday, Aug. 30. Cost is $225 plus textbook.

The Computer Skills for College 18-hour class is designed teach students how to use a computer to produce documents required in college. Topics will include Advanced Text Formatting, Application of Styles, Bibliography, Spreadsheet Formulas, etc. Course prerequisite: Basic Computer Literacy, Competent in MS Word and Excel. The course will be offered at the Norwood Adult Education Center Monday through Thursday July 30 to Aug. 2 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Cost is $150.

A “Heartsaver” First Aid class that teaches critical skills to respond to and manage an emergency until medical personnel arrive will be offered at the Massena Library Wednesday, July 18 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Students will learn to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and other first aid emergencies. Upon completion, will students receive an American Heart Association First Aide Course completion card. Cost is $50 plus $10 for a certification card.
