NORWOOD --The BOCES adult education center will host a free nurse assistant training program beginning July 8. To be eligible for the free program participants must lack a high school diploma.
The program requires 157 hours of training, including 130 hours in classroom, laboratory and clinic learning and 27 hours of literacy instruction. The literacy instruction will include basic medical math, written communication and critical reading, as well as an introduction to healthcare education.
The program will also include academic advising and job searching assistance. Nurse assistant instruction will run from July 8 to Aug. 21, Monday through Thursday from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. Literacy instruction will run from July 9 to Aug. 6, Tuesday and Thursday from noon to 3 p.m. Clinical work will run from Aug. 8 to Aug. 15 from 4 to 9 p.m.
