SOUTH COLTON -- A boater safety course, sponsored by The Higley Association and presented by state-certified trainers Jim and Sue Corbett, will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 25 at the Community Center, Sugar Bush Lane.
Everyone born on or after May 1, 1996 is now required to successfully complete an approved course in boater education in order to operate a motorboat and for those 14 and older to operate a personal watercraft such as a Jet-Ski. There is no charge for course materials but for those 18 and older, there is a $10 fee made payable to the NYS Department of Parks and Recreation to cover certificate cost.
There is a limited number of available spots for the class. Call 265-4354 for further information and to pre-register.
Other dates for this course are available. Check at www.nysparks.com: select Recreation then Boating then Education then Course availability. There is also a great deal of safe boating information at this site.
