POTSDAM -- SUNY Potsdam's Department of Theatre and Dance will present "Blues for Mister Charlie" by James Baldwin at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 28 and 29, at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 30 and at 7:30 p.m. from Thursday to Saturday, Nov. 3 to 5 in College Theatre, Satterlee Hall.
Written by Baldwin in 1963 as a response to the increasing violence in the civil rights movement, the play confronts racism directly and unflinchingly.
Based loosely on the Emmett Till murder, this is playwriting at its highest level, as to be expected from one of the 20th century's greatest critics of the "race problem." The language is raw, the images disturbing and the story complex. Thus, this show is meant for a mature audience.
Ticket prices are $12 for general admission, $10 for SUNY Potsdam faculty and staff and senior citizens, and $5 for SUNY Potsdam students and youth.
Tickets are available at 267-2277, www.cpspotsdam.org or Northern Music & Video in downtown Potsdam.
