CANTON -- The Blue Moon Radio Hour will be performed Dec. 5, from 8-9:30 p.m. at St. Lawrence University’s Noble University Center, by the college music department.
The Blue Moon Radio Hour brings to life a stage version of a 1930s radio broadcast complete with music and a radio drama, complete with hostess or host, Duke Ellington and radio suspense theater pieces like the The Shadow.
Each year, the music department offers a performance called the Rhythm and Roots Ensemble. Its purpose is to showcase a specific, talented individual.
“While the department has the Laurentian Singers, the String Orchestra and Wind Ensemble as formal, developmental ensembles, we wanted this to be different – a more “moveable feast” usually built around an extraordinary student performer who happens to be in our midst, who’s gift doesn’t fit easily into traditional college ensembles,” said Michael Farley, associate professor in the arts
In the past, the ensemble has done such performances as a Memphis Jugband BBQ, a luau, a tango orchestra, a classic country music show, and an all women’s rock performance, called Femme Fatale.
This year’s performance is a cross between a classic ballroom and a radio broadcast in the 1930s. It will not be your typical music concert, in that the music department aims for a deep immersion with these performances, with a theatrical stage to go along with the theme.
The performance will be directed by Farley as one of his last projects at St. Lawrence.

Admission to the Blue Moon is free and open to the public.
The event will be staged in the Launders Underground (NC 001).
