COLTON -- Beach music will fill the air in Colton when Big Papa & The Escape Key Band performs on Wednesday, Aug. 16, from 6-8 p.m.

The performance will take place outside at the Gazebo behind the Museum on Main Street unless it’s raining. In the event of rain, the show will be staged inside the Old Fire Station just across the river on Riverside Drive.

This is the fifth of six Colton Riverside Performances featuring a diversity of music by groups based in communities along the Raquette River or with members from along the river.

Warren Harman, also known as Big Papa, will perform with Mark Purser (aka Landshark Mark) and Rhonda Roethel (aka Rumrunner).

The trio covers music of Key West and the islands including songs by Jimmy Buffet, Zac Brown, Bob Marley from the 60s and 70s.

Audience participants need to bring their own chairs for seating.

Throughout the evening the Colt’s Pride Booster Club will have grilled hot dogs and hamburgers, drinks, and other goodies available to purchase at very reasonable prices.

The performance is free and open to the public.

Although there is no admission fee there are expenses to be paid including performer fees.

The series is made possible in part with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts, administered by the St. Lawrence County Arts Council.

Also six businesses, Catamount Lodge & Forest LLC, Hide Away Café, Hoffman Eells & Gray CPAs, Paula Youmell/Wise Woman Nurse, Raquette River Pub, S&L Electric, are sponsors this year.

Expenses are also covered through product sales and the raffle of painted barn quilts throughout the summer.

On Aug. 16, a two-by-two foot barn quilt, valued at $125, featuring a traditional water wheel quilt block pattern will be raffled.

The winning ticket will be announced at the end of the performance; and winners do not have to be present to win.

Until the performance the barn quilt is displayed in the Colton Hepburn Library where tickets can be purchased, 2 for $5. Only 100 tickets are available.

More information about summer activities are available on the town website, www.townofcolton.com, and the Town of Colton page on Facebook. Paper copies of the summer schedule are available in the library at the Colton town hall, and in the Stone Valley Information Center located in the Colton museum across the street.

Scott Muller of the town’s tourism and beautification committee can be called about the performance and the entire summer series at 315-244-9956.
