CANTON -- Benita Bike's DanceArt concert is set for Friday, March 4, at 8 p.m. in Gulick Theater at St. Lawrence University.

Benita Bike's DanceArt is known for its innovative dance outreach programming along with its dramatic use of space and gesture to make sensitive observations on life, event organizers said in an email. Benita's choreography stands at the crossroads of past and present, blending music and sensibilities of the past with evocative contemporary movement.

"Renaissance 5," a dancey quintet infused with energy and innocence and set to bawdy 16th century drinking music; "In the Garden," accompanied by the sounds of night and Finnish vocal music, bringing an ancient lost garden to life; and "Through the Lens," accompanied by the quirky and surprising music by Hans Reichl, Barry Hall, and John Beck, organizers said.

Instruments used in the compositions are made from various non-standard materials, and the movement that this music inspires is completely surprising, organizers said. "Southern Memories" is a poignant, dramatic and energetic trio set to old traditional tunes from the Southern United States.

"For Rose" is a duet detailing the complex relationship Benita Bike had with her 88-year-old mother who passed away in early May 2015.
