NORWOOD – Live music, raffles, a silent auction, food and drink are planned at a benefit Sunday, April 29 to raise money to help with medical and travel expenses for a brain cancer survivor.
The benefit for Karissa Davis Castanier will take place from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Norwood American Legion.
Castainier was diagnosed with brain cancer at age 14 and was declared cancer-free at age 16. But she continues to endure surgeries to replace, repair and adjust the shunt in the side of her head which is necessary for her to survive.
When the shunt is not working properly, she has horrible headaches and she could ultimately die if her spinal fluid backs up or gets infected. Now 20, she travels to Syracuse once a week for continued care and attempts to work a full time job so she does not have to go on public assistance.
Those unable to attend the event who wish to make a donation can send checks made out to “Karissa Castanier Benefit,” PO Box 221, Norwood, NY 13668. Those wishing to make a donation for the silent auction may contact Bob Henninger at 244-5266 for pickup.
