Beat the Heat summer movie days at Hawkins Point Visitors Center, Massena

MASSENA—The New York Power Authority (NYPA) will once again host its “Beat the Heat Summer Movie Days” every Tuesday this summer at the admission-free, air-conditioned Hawkins Point Visitors Center and Boat Launch on Barnhart Island.

The special summer campaign, which is in addition to the visitor center’s Friday matinee movie series, features a full day of free movies and popcorn every Tuesday from June 29 through August 31.

Family-friendly films will be shown at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. in the visitors center’s auditorium.

The schedule for June and July is:

• June 29: 10 a.m. “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel”; 1 p.m. “The Princess and the Frog”; 3 p.m. “Tooth Fairy”; 5 p.m. “Shrek”

July 6: 10 a.m. “Shorts”; 1 p.m. “Planet 51”; 3 p.m. “Free Willy: Escape from Pirate's Cove”; 5 p.m. “Toy Story”

• July 13: 10 a.m. “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs”; 1 p.m. “Fantastic Mr. Fox”; 3 p.m. “The Spy Next Door”; 5 p.m. “Beverly Hills Chihuahua”

• July 20: 10 a.m. “G-Force”; 1 p.m. “Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief”; 3 p.m. “Old Dogs”; 5 p.m. “Up”

• July 27: 10 a.m. “Sleeping Beauty”; 1 p.m. “Where the Wild Things Are”; 3 p.m. “Imagine That”; 5 p.m. “Alice in Wonderland”

Besides enjoying the movies, visitors can sample the hands-on exhibits at the Hawkins Point Visitors Center, which presents information on such themes as electricity generation and the St. Lawrence-FDR project, Basics of Electricity and Uses of Electricity.

Another highlight is the panoramic view of the project’s power dam.
