Battle of Ogdensburg kicks off Saturday with re-enactment

OGDENSBURG -- The Battle of Ogdensburg celebration and re-enactment is slated for Feb. 18 and 19 this year and organizers have several events planned.

A lecture on the local War of 1812 sites will be given at 11 a.m. at the armory by Bryan Thompson, Dekalb Historian and author.

The battle re-enactment starts at 1:30 p.m. in downtown Ogdensburg. “Hostilities” commence at Riverside Avenue (now Water Street) and Franklin Street (now Euphania Street) and will end at Ford and State streets.

At 3 p.m. there will be an English country dance demonstration at the Armory in preparation for the winter ball held later that evening at 7:30 p.m. at the Ogdensburg Amvets 19 at 215 Ford St.

On Sunday, a wreath laying ceremony at Sheriff York’s grave in Ogdensburg Cemetery is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.

Another battle re-enactment will follow at 1:30 at Van Rensselaer Point, formerly Lighthouse Point.

All events are free and open to the public.
