CANTON -- Canton area students in grades 4 through 6 are invited to the Battle of the Books organizational meeting on Jan. 22 at 2:40 p.m. in the Canton middle school library.
Children may still participate if they cannot attend this meeting.
The Battle of the Books is an exciting event which has become a much-anticipated tradition.
The Canton battle will be on April 6 this year (registration deadline is March 23).
Students form teams of up to 4 members and choose an adult as a coach.
Teams may be of mixed grades (as long as they are 4-6 grades) and may be made up of students who attend different Canton area schools or are homeschooled.
Teams will read a chosen list of 16 books and during the Battle in April, they will be asked questions about the books on the list, and will need to give the book’s title and author as their answer.
The winning team will go on to a regional competition to face winning teams from other North Country Library System libraries on May 4.
Students who are homeschooled or attend Little River Community School or St. Mary’s may attend this meeting or get an information/registration packet in the children’s room at the Canton Free Library.
