‘Bar Olympics’ at Myer’s in Ogdensburg June 10 to benefit soldiers’ fishing event; WPBS-tv star to tend bar

OGDENSBURG – Forget what’s happening this summer in London. Plan instead to enter the Bar Olympics at Myer’s Pub in Ogdensburg on Sunday, June 10, to benefit the FISHCAP Wounded Warriors Bass Tournament taking place later in the month on the St. Lawrence River.

The fun is from noon on at Myer’s, 17 Commerce St. A DJ will provide music and food will be available. A $15 entry fee per team will qualify tavern Olympians for any two events, including pool, Cam-Jam, darts, and Texas Washers.

Don Meissner, FISHCAP coordinator and well-known star of WPBS-TV’s Streamside, will be celebrity bartender throughout the day.

All monies raised will go to support the Wounded Warrior event set for June 23.

Others are supporting the bass event, too, including Ogdensburg VFW Post 2936, which is holding a sit-down dinner on the 23rd for all the soldiers and volunteers who participate in the tournament. They will also provide an honor guard for the start of the tournament.

The Irish Rover Fishing Charter of Henderson Harbor is contributing a special prize for the tournament: a trout and salmon fishing excursion for four people. Three Rivers Taxidermy will mount up to two winning fish at no charge. And about a dozen local boaters have volunteered to provide their boats for the day.

Boats will be launched from the Ogdensburg Marina at 7:30 a.m. on the 23rd.

There is still a need for boats, and volunteers, according to organizer and FISHCAP board member Bob Giordano. Contact him at 600-7533 or by email at barrongd@aol.com.
