POTSDAM -- SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music will welcome award-winning composer and internationally-recognized educator, Jodie Blackshaw, as the 2015 Joy Anthony Douglass Visiting Master Teacher, in an upcoming week-long residency.
Blackshaw is well known for her 21st century modes of creativity, movement, vocalizations and alternative orchestration techniques for enriching musical experiences. During her visit to Crane, she will share her expertise with undergraduate music education classes and with performing ensembles.
Her visit will include three public workshop-performances at The Crane School of Music, as follows:
Monday, Oct. 5: Cortland Honor Band, 3 p.m., in the Helen M. Hosmer Concert Hall
Tuesday, Oct. 6: SUNY Potsdam Campus Community Band, 6 p.m., also in Hosmer Hall
Thursday, Oct. 8: A.A. Kingston Middle School Band, 11:30 a.m., in the Sara M. Snell Music Theatre
All three events are free and the public is invited.
Blackshaw's visit to Potsdam is made possible through the Joy Anthony Douglass Visiting Master Teacher Fund, which was established by Joy Anthony Douglass '56 to honor the transformative experiences she had as a student during her time at Crane.
