AKWESASNE – Fast cars and fireworks are on the card at Mohawk International Raceway tonight.

The second round of the Frenchie’s Chevy Runs Deep 358 Modified Series heads the lineup, along with a full program for Sportsman, Pro Stocks, Mod Lites and Bandits.

The raceway will celebrate Independence Day with a fireworks display.

After getting rained out last week, raceway officials are looking for a good night of racing tonight.

Last year’s Chevy Runs Deep 358 Modified Series champion and Mohawk Raceway Track Champion Billy Dunn won the first event of the 2013 Frenchie’s Series and will be looking to capture the 50 lap feature. He will be up against four-time winner Carey Terrance, two-time winner Chris Raabe, as well as Roy Tarbell and Brian McDonald who both have Frenchie’s series victories to their credit. Dale Planck and Matt Billings also have Frenchie’s Series feature wins.

Roy Tarbell took home the inaugural championship in 2009. Todd Stone claimed back-to-back titles in 2010 and 2011. Billy Dunn won the championship in a very close battle on the final night last season.

Pit gates and spectator area open at 4 p.m. Heat races start at 7:30 p.m. Pit admission is $30 with DIRTcar icense and $35 without. Grandstand admission is $20; for children 12 and under, just $5.

Mohawk International Raceway in Akwesasne is midway between the Seaway International Bridge to Cornwall and the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino. From Route 37, turn south onto Frogtown Road.
