CANTON -- David Schryver, noted North Country waterfalls enthusiast and co-author of “Waterfalls of New York State,” will meet visitors and sign copies of his book from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23 at the St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center, 101 Main St., Canton.

“Waterfalls of New York State” celebrates 100 of New York’s falls, many of which are in St. Lawrence and surrounding counties. The book presents each waterfall with full color photography, local history, maps, and driving and access information. Approximately 40 of the featured waterfalls are in the North Country region.

Schryver was a math teacher in the Edwards-Knox Central School District for 33 years. Upon his retirement in 2006, he began to research the waterfalls in the area. His website, www.nnywaterfalls.com, is another invaluable resource and guide to waterfalls in St. Lawrence, Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Fulton, Hamilton, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Montgomery, Oneida, Oswego, Saratoga, Schenectady, Warren, and Washington counties.

“Waterfalls of New York State” is a valuable regional travel guide for weekend explorers, fans of waterfalls, visitors and armchair travelers, according to Amazon.com. Canadian travelers from Quebec and Ontario will appreciate the many day trips available just over the border, they also said.

Books will be available for purchase during the signing in Canton.

The County Chamber’s “Waterfalls Guide,” which was compiled with assistance from Schryver, is also available and has details on several St. Lawrence County waterfalls.
