CANTON -- Auditions will be held Saturday, March 11, from 2-4 p.m. and Monday, March 13, from 7-9 p.m. at the lower level of the Unitarian Universalist Church, 3 1/2 E. Main St. for the original musical, “Working in the North Country.”
The production, written and directed by Karen Wells, is being produced April 28, 29 and 30 at Pickens Hall in Heuvelton under the auspices of the Grasse River Players and the Occupational Health Clinical Center of Northern NY, in conjunction with Workers’ Memorial Day. The cast of 15 will include men and women from the age of 16 and older. Only some of the roles will require singing.
The musical play dramatically addresses what is working and not working for the often unseen and vulnerable workforce in the North Country whose labor supports the life and culture that many take for granted. It is based on several months of interviews with a variety of local workers and employers.
