EDWARDS – The Atkinsons will perform bluegrass and Americana music tonight (April 16) at 7 p.m. in Edwards Opera House upstairs above the Edwards Town Hall at 161 Main St.

The concert kicks off the 2016 season at the opera house. For a complete schedule, visit www.edwardsartscouncil.org

Tickets are $10 at the door.

Recording on the AFM record label, members of the Atkinsons compose a lot of the acoustic songs they perform, which tell the stories of their lives in the northern mountains of the Adirondacks.

The Harrisville-based band is in the process of recording its seventh release. The group features three strong lead and harmony singers, which produces a unique sound.

Band members include Dick Atkinson on banjo, vocals and guitar; Shelene Atkinson on guitar and vocals; Laura Atkinson on stand-up bass and vocals; national champion Dave Bevins on dobro; Adam Atkinson on mandolin.

To reach the opera house, from Canton take Park Street past St. Lawrence University, then take a right at the first intersection with a four-way stop. At the intersection in Russell, turn left and follow the road to Edwards. The town hall will be on your right.

From downtown Gouverneur, turn south onto NYS Route 58. After entering the town of Edwards, signs will indicate that Edwards and Russell are to the left. Take the left and you will enter the village. After passing a gas station and crossing a bridge, the road will turn left. At this point, the town hall opera house is on your left.
