Community members, organizations, and individual artists are invited to attend a free workshop to learn how to apply for a Community Arts Grant to support arts and cultural projects in St. Lawrence County.

The St. Lawrence County Arts Council offers free workshops to provide information and guidelines necessary to apply for a Community Arts Grant.

Project proposals can be for public arts events and activities in any discipline – including music, theatre, dance, visual arts or literary arts.

Non-profit organizations and municipalities may apply directly for these grants. Individuals and organizations without the appropriate non-profit status may apply with the assistance of a non-profit organization, which agrees to serve as a conduit for the funds.

Grant requests can range from $300 to $5,000 dollars. The Community Arts Grants program is administered by the SLC Arts Council, to distribute re-grant funds provided by the New York State Council on the Arts--Decentralization Grant Program.

The application deadline is Friday, Sept. 30 for projects in 2012.

If you plan to apply, you must attend a workshop in 2011, even if you have come to a workshop in the past. Participants must register in advance. Call 265-6860 or use the “Contact Us” link on the SLC Arts Council website at www.slcartscouncil.org to register for any of the upcoming workshops.

There are a limited number of workshops remaining in the season:

• Thurs. Aug. 18, 6-8pm in Potsdam

• Wed. Aug. 24, 1-3pm in Gouverneur.
