Arts Council offering classes for painters, crafters, cartoonists in Potsdam

POTSDAM – The SLC Arts Council is offering four arts classes for painters, crafters and cartoonists in October.

Classes will be held in the crafts studio (room 228), Downtown Snell Hall. Contact the SLC Arts Council to register and pre-pay for classes at 265-6860, www.slcartscouncil.org or by stopping by 51 Market St., Potsdam.

• Watercolor Workshop with Roberta Paccione – Saturday, Oct. 23, 10-1 p.m. Roberta will guide students in a creative meditation exercise and then lead them in an exploration of watercolor techniques as they create a painting. This class will focus on floral still life painting. Adult students (18 and up) of all levels of experience are welcome to attend. Class fee: $28. Ask for a list of materials to bring when you call to register.

• Arts Around the World for ages 6-12 with Kris Rozelle – Thursday, Oct. 14, 3:30-5 p.m. October's class features Japanese Suminagashi, an ancient form of paper marbling. Watch as colored ink is floated on water and surprises unfold. Class fee: $15. Materials fee: $5.

• Comics Club! with Dave W. Ferry – Saturday, Oct. 16, noon-3 p.m. Ages 12-adult. Our introduction to comic book art continues, now with an extra hour of instruction. Explore sketching and forming characters, perspective drawing, sequential storytelling, and most importantly—bringing ideas to life. Beginners welcome. Class fee: $20. Bring a sketchbook, good eraser, and pencils.

• Arts Around the World for Grown Ups with Kris Rozelle – Saturday, Oct. 30, 10-11:30 a.m. This is an opportunity to explore world culture through art projects. October's class will feature Japanese Suminagashi, an ancient form of paper marbling. Students will also have the opportunity to try marbling on a silk scarf. Class fee: $15. Materials fee: $10.
