Arts Council has fun selection of classes for kids during January

POTSDAM -- The St. Lawrence County Arts Council has a fun selection of classes for kids to dispel the winter blahs at Downtown Snell Hall. To register and pre-pay for classes: 265-6860 or www.slcartscouncil.org. Inquire about appropriate attire for dance and movement classes.

• Toddlers Teaming Up with Gulfer Cetinkaya, Tuesdays, Jan. 11 through March 1, 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. Ages 2-6. Arts and crafts, story time and fun moving to music. $65 for eight weeks.

• Ballet for Tots with Devon Butler , Thursdays, Jan. 13 to June 9, 5:45 to 6:30 p.m.; no class Feb 24, April 14, May 19. The building blocks of ballet; play, sing, and learn a dance combination. Students must be potty trained and able to follow instructions. Parents will be asked to wait in the Reading Room across the hall. $115 for 18 weeks.

• Ballet for Ages 6 to 10 with Devon Butler, Fridays, Jan. 14 to June 10, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.; no classes Feb. 25, April 15, May 20. Ballet basics; barre work and a floor warmup, ballet combinations throughout the season. Appropriate for beginning dancers and those with some prior dance experience. $144 for 18 weeks.

• Arts Around the World for Ages 6 to -12 with Kris Rozelle, Saturday, Jan. 15, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Learn about world cultures and art by creating a colorful and exciting African style Mask. $15, plus $5 materials fee.

• Caribbean Dance for Ages 8 to 12 with A'Keitha Carey, Saturdays, Jan. 15 to Feb. 19, noon to 1 p.m. Afro-Cuban jazz, reggae, soca, calypso, salsa, zouk and percussion. For the gym enthusiast or those who have a dance background. $48 for 6 weeks.
