The Morristown Public Library will host the Plein Air Festival, with highlights to include artist visits, a silent auction and barbeque, Aug. 1 to Aug. 4.

Artists from Morristown and Macomb, as well as from across the state and country and into Canada, will set up their easels around the Morristown area to create landscape portraits.

At least 20 artists are expected to compete for $1,636 in prizes.

A collection of paintings by students of Charles S. Chapman will be on display at the library from July 22 to July 29 in anticipation of the festival.

Beginning Friday, Aug. 2 the artists can be visited at their painting sites. A map with locations will be available at the library, with updates throughout the weekend.

Each artist will have door prize tickets available. Pick up a ticket at each site for a chance to win door prizes at Sunday’s silent auction.

A powerpoint presentation by Joe McDonald on the works of local artist Charles S. Chapman will be held Friday at 8 p.m. at the Bella-Brooke Vineyard and Winery, 2989 County Route 6, Hammond. The lecture will be preceded by hors d’oeuvres at 6 p.m.

Saturday events will include visits with the artists and the library’s annual book sale. The sale will run from 9 a.m. to noon, with a selection of books and movies available.

A “meet and greet” chicken barbeque with the artists will be held Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Fire and Rescue Pavilion, 6703 Morris St., Morristown. Tickets will be $9 in advance at the library or $10 at the door. “Juggling Josh” will entertain at 7 p.m.

Sunday’s adults-only silent auction will be a noon at the Pony Barn, 2908 SH 37, Brier Hill, with each artist submitting up to three paintings for judging and purchase. Door prizes will be drawn. Hors d’oeuvres will be served and “Yellow Moon,” a three-member eclectic band, will provide entertainment. Awards will be announced at noon, followed by the people’s choice award at 3 p.m.
