OGDENSBURG -- The Frederic Remington Art Museum’s 2016 Members’ Juried Art Exhibition will open May 21 featuring artists from Ogdensburg, Massena, Nicholville, Winthrop, Potsdam, Canton, Waddington, Chase Mills, South Colton, Rensselaer Falls and other places.

The opening will include a public reception from 2 to 4 p.m.

The museum received 162 images submitted by 66 artists, a record number in the members' exhibit.

Juror Catherine Tedford selected 67 works to be in the exhibition, which will run through Sept. 11.

The exhibition is water-themed.

“Artists have addressed the theme in a wide variety of ways, from the many landscapes with water, to a goldfish bowl, an aerial view and a couple abstractions,” an event announcement from the museum reads. “Sometimes the relation to the theme is obvious, sometimes less so.”

There will be a Best in Show prize of $100, second prize of $75 and a third place prize of $50. The prizes will be announced at 3 p.m.

At the end of the exhibition in September, a public’s choice award, a museum-wrapped canvas of Remington’s oil painting “Boat House at Ingleneuk” ca. 1904, will be announced.

Anyone can vote for their favorite artwork until September 6, at the museum or on the website,www.fredericremington.org. The museum asks people vote once.

Many of the works will be for sale. One third of the proceeds benefit the museum, and two thirds go to the artist.

The exhibit will have an online gallery at www.fredericremington.org.
