CANTON -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will make a presentation on several recent water quality assessment projects they have conducted in St. Lawrence County at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, in the Board of Legislators Chamber, St. Lawrence County Courthouse, 48 Court St.

This presentation is open to anyone.

On Thursday July 16, the Corps will conduct a training session to learn how to do water quality assessments. The session will be held from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Marine Corps League building at the Madrid Community Park, Bridge Street, in Madrid. Participants will actually try a water quality assessment; dress for getting wet.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for ‘Citizen Scientists’ to learn a common technique for assessing water quality,” according to John Tenbusch, St. Lawrence Co. Planning Office. “The tools are simple but powerful; by learning this technique, people who do water quality assessments will produce data that can be compiled into large-scale analyses of our water.”

There is no charge. Registration is required, as space is limited. To register, call 379-2292, or email jtenbusch@stlawco.org.
