CANTON -- The Any Music Singers will present two concerts, June 1 and 10, showcasing the North Country’s historical connections with a variety of musical and spiritual traditions in America.
The concert, “Traditions and Legacies,” features music from two 1850s songbooks uncovered during the restoration of the old Methodist meeting house in Dekalb.
These pieces reflect themes of patriotism, westward expansion, the Temperance movement, and the foundations of public education in our growing country.
The concert will first be presented Thursday, June 1, at 7:30 p.m., at the First Presbyterian Church on the Park in Canton.
This concert supports Canton's restoration of the fountain in the village park. All donations made at the concert will go towards this project. There is no admission charge for the concert.\
“Traditions and Legacies” will be presented again Saturday June 10, at 7 p.m., at the Old Meetinghouse and Town Museum in Dekalb.
This concert supports the Dekalb Historical Association. Donations will be accepted at the concert, in lieu of an admission charge.
The Any Music Singers is an open community chorus, directed by Paul Siskind.
Formed in 2012, TAMS attracts singers from around the North Country, with a repertoire as diverse as the backgrounds and musical preferences of our singers, with music from a variety of styles, eras and cultures.
