COLTON – The annual Friends of Higley Flow State Park bicycle outings, the Higley 100 Fall Foliage Century Ride and Half-Century Ride, are set for Sept. 10.

The 100-mile and 50-mile rides, and also a 20-mile loop, are sponsored by the Friends with help from the Canton Bicycle Club.

This event will begin and end at Higley Flow State Park beach off Cold Brook Drive in South Colton.

The 100-mile ride starts at 7:30 a.m., the 50-mile ride at 9:30 a.m., and the 20-mile ride at 11 a.m.

There are several shorter loops ranging from two to 25 miles which non-century riders and family members may enjoy riding while their century riders are on the course.

Proceeds from these events support the efforts of the Friends of Higley Flow State Park to enhance park facilities and services, including the planned “Higley Trails Lodge” year-round multi-use structure.

Map and commemorative wear pick up is from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the beach. A buffet barbecue will be served at the park from 2 to 4:30 p.m. for registered participants. Participants may purchase a commemorative tee shirt or baseball cap if preregistered by Aug. 27.

Participants will be required to sign an insurance waiver. Each participant will receive a map and cue sheet of the ride. The courses will also be marked on the pavement.

A water stop will be set up at a mid-point, and stores offer other refreshment stops.

Riders will leave the park following mainly a mixture of rural town and county roads. The rides offer some of the best scenery in the area. Bicycle helmets will be required.
