NORWOOD – The next two performances of the Norwood Village Green Concert Series will be Dave Ruch and the Canal Street Band on Thursday, June 8; and Wells and the Gathering, Thursday, June 15.

The series presents Dave Ruch and the Canal Street String Band in two performances June 8, at 1 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. The 1 p.m. performance is for students from Norwood-Norfolk Central School and their guests from neighboring school districts. The 7 p.m. performance is for the general public.

With three voices, fifty-five strings, and a pair of cow bones, The Canal Street String Band puts a brand-new shine on some seriously fun old American music.

Fiddle tunes, sea shanties, cowboy songs, canal ditties, mountain music, western swing and originals too, with banjo, fiddle, twin mandolins, string bass, dobro, guitar, octave mandolin, assorted "pocket" instruments, and three-part harmonies.

The series presents Wells and the Gathering on Thursday, June 15, beginning at 7 p.m.

The Gathering is a fiddle-flavored group playing what feels good, sounds good, and is good in a non-genre way.

David Wells started his music career in Northern New York playing in local bands while in high school in the Heuvelton area.

Wells spent some time out of the area, working and performing as a drummer and as a singer/songwriter with various stops during those years, including Syracuse, Utica, and New York City.

In 2004, David relocated back to the North Country to find musical work playing drums and percussion for area organizations such as Community Performance Series and Northern Symphonic Winds. He also continued to write and perform as a singer/songwriter and to record two solo records, while working with various other musicians in the area.

The Gathering is comprised of fiddler Amber Nezezon, drummer Michael Jadlos and longtime Northern New York musician Greg Jadlos.

Admission is free for both of the shows, but there is a “pass the bucket.”

The series is supported in part by the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency, with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature. Its primary support is from many organizations, foundations, businesses and individuals. This concert is further supported by the Sweetgrass Foundation.

The series continues to take donations by check. They can be mailed to: Norwood Village Green Concert Series, 3 Bicknell St., Norwood. All contributions are tax deductible. Donations are encouraged and needed.
