American Kang Duk Won Karate hosts introductory lessons in traditional martial arts training at several locations in and near St. Lawrence County this month, and all new spring programs for young people and adults are starting.
Individuals and families may try a free initial workout at these classes:
• Canton, St. Lawrence University, teens and adults, Mondays, 6:15 to 7:30 p.m.; and St. Mary’s School, Powers St., for all, Wednesdays 5 to 6:30 p.m., Saturdays 9 to 10 a.m.
• Gouverneur, kids grades 1 to 5, Tuesdays 4 to 5 p.m., Recreation Center, Trinity Ave. and Clinton Street, and for all, Tuesdays 6 to 7:30 p.m., East Side Elementary, Gleason Street.
• Harrisville, for all, Thursdays 6 to 7:30 p.m., Harrisville Central School, Pirate Lane.
• Heuvelton, for all, Wednesdays, 6 to 7:30 p.m., Heuvelton Central High School, Washington Street.
• Madrid, for all, Wednesdays 5:30 to 7 p.m., Madrid-Waddington Central School, State Rt. 345.
• Norwood, for all, Tuesdays from 5:30 to 8 p.m., Municipal Building, Main Street.
• Ogdensburg, Mondays, for children, 4 to 5 p.m., and for all, 6 to 7:30 p.m., St. John’s Parish Hall.
• Parishville, for all, Saturdays 9 to 10:30 a.m., Town Hall.
Karate is a self-defense discipline that can improve physical fitness, confidence, and the ability to remain safe in risky situations. There are techniques in relaxation, meditation, anti-bullying, and core fitness.
