MALONE -- The Almanzo Wilder Homestead, site of “Farmer Boy” by Laura Ingalls Wilder, will open for the season Saturday, May 25.
Guided tours are provided daily through the original farmhouse and reconstructed barns on the property formerly owned by Wilder’s husband’s family.
A picnic pavilion is available, as is a walk to the Trout River.
Special events this year will include a children’s art show June 29 to July 6, a children’s art show gala July 6 and “Independence Day Picnic,” and dedication of a one-room schoolhouse Aug. 24. Tentatively scheduled to attend are Dean Butler, who played Almanzo Wilder on the “Little House on the Prairie” series, and Lucy Lee Flippen who portrayed Eliza Jane, are tentatively planning appearances at the Aug. 24 event.
Hours for the farm are Saturdays 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays 1 to 4 p.m., with the last tour available at 3 p.m.
A juried art exhibit for adults will be offered in September, as well a harvest festival and civil war camp.
Admission is $7.50 for adults, $7 for seniors, and $4 for kids age six to 16.
