Celebrating their 35th anniversary this year, the Alexander String Quartet – consisting of Zakarias Grafilo on first violin, Frederick Lifsitz on second violin, Paul Yarbrough on viola and Sandy Wilson on Cello – will perform their noontime matinee lecture/performance on Wednesday, Sept. 28, in the Peterson-Kermani Performace Hall.
On Thursday, Sept. 29, the quartet will perform numbers by Beethoven, Schubert and Shostakovich at 8 p.m. in the Gulick Theatre.
Both events at St. Lawrence are free and open to the public.
Established in 1981 and based out of San Francisco, the Alexander String Quartet captured international attention and were recognized as the first American Quartet to win the London International String Quartet Competition in 1985.
Domestically, the Alexander String Quartet have made appearances in New York City (the Lincoln Center, the 91nd Street Y, Metropolitan Museum), Boston (Jordan Hall), and Washington (the Library of Congress, Dumbarton Oaks).
