AKWESASNE -- Akwesasne will take part in Community Solar NY, a program the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe said “will make investing in solar power easier and more affordable for local residents and businesses.”
The program will kick off with a reception on Wednesday, June 3 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort.
Community Solar NY is aimed at getting area homes and businesses to install solar and obtain competitive pricing, thereby lowering the cost. Historically, Solarize campaigns lower the cost of solar 10 to 20 percent, according to the tribe.
“Our Solarize Akwesasne! launch has been a collective effort between the Akwesasne Housing Authority, the SRMT’s Environment, Planning & Infrastructure and Economic Development divisions and NYSERDA,” Sub-Chief Shelley Jacobs said. “This is a transformational green initiative that will impact our environment, our energy efficiency and create employment opportunities.”
