AKWESASNE -- Akwesasne International Powwow is set for Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 10-11 at the arena on Cornwall Island in the St. Lawrence River.
Highlights of the event include the dance, drum and smoke dance competitions each day, and the grand entrances at noon.
In addition to the First Nations performers from across Canada and the United States, special guests this year are the Tlacopan Aztec Dancers from Mexico City, who will perform before each grand entry and at 5 p.n. Saturday in the hand-made attire adorned with red, blue, yellow and green macaw feathers and rare six foot long pheasant feathers.
Vendors and crafters will be on hand with home made Native food and traditional crafts.
A weekend pass costs $12, daily general admission is $8, $5 for kids 6 to 12, and free for those 5 and under and over 65.
