The Adirondack Mountain Club Laurentian Chapter are planning a slew of outings for the remainder of winter and into early spring.

Those interested in attending should contact the person listed with each event.

• Jan. 1 - New Year's Day pot luck party at Adirondack Lodge, Clarkson University. No cooking facilities, so club members say to bring hors d'oeuvres that don't need cooking or heating. There will be short, easy walking, skiing or snowshoeing tours of campus trails. Outdoor activities start about 2 p.m. with snacks about 4 p.m. Pets are not allowed indoors. More info: Tom Wheeler, 386-2482 or northflow@gmail.com

• Jan. 9 - Night hike at Robert Moses State Park, Massena. This will take place after dark. Depending on the amount of snow cover, the group may not need snowshoes. 3.6 miles of trails to explore. Easy. Contact: Jeanna Matthews, jeanna.matthews@gmail.com, 250-0566.

• Feb. 6: Cascade Mountain. It is known as being one of the more accessible of the 46 High Peaks, but is still a major climb. Great views from the summit. 5 miles round trip with a 2,000-foot vertical climb. Strenuous. Contact: Tom Ortmeyer, tortmeye@gmail.com, 265-8219.

• Feb. 13: Stone Valley east side trail snowshoe/hike. Meet at the trailhead at 9 a.m. for this more than three-mile outing. Club members expect good views of ice formations associated with the river's numerous waterfalls. Fairly easy. For those interested, lunch at the Hide-Away Café in Colton will follow the outing. Contact: Gene & Carolyn Kaczka, gckaczka@twcny.rr.com, 265-4806.

• Feb. 13: Snowshoe Haystack Mountain, near Lake Placid. Summit has 180-degree views of Whiteface Mountain and the Saranac Lake chain. The round trip is 6.6 miles with 1,300-foot elevation gain. Moderate pace. Strenuous. Contact: Adam Gonyeau (518) 338-7207, gonyeaa196@potsdam.edu; or Eli Smith smither198@potsdam.edu, 418-0693.

• Feb. 20: Snowshoe Mt. Arab. This trail to the top is a mile long and gains about 700 feet in elevation. Club members say it is usually easier in winter than in summer. Two miles round trip. Easy to moderate. Contact: Blair Madore, madorebf@potsdam.edu, 261-0751.

• Feb. 27: Skiing at Paul Smiths Visitor Information Center (VIC). A large and scenic network of groomed trails allows a route customized to a wide range of abilities. Equipment rentals available. Trail use fee. Roughly 10 miles, moderate. Contact: John Barron, (613) 828-2296, johnbarron@sympatico.ca.

• Mar. 5: Snowshoe up Goodman Mountain near Tupper Lake. Suitable for beginner snowshoers. The trail was constructed last year and honors slain civil rights activist Andrew Goodman. There are good views of nearby Coney Mountain from the summit. 3.2 miles round trip, 570-foot elevation gain. Moderate. Contact: Eileen and Tom Wheeler, 386-2482.

• Mar. 19: Snowshoeing The Pinnacle. This small peak near Santa Clara gives a feel of the mountains for a minimal investment in driving. Five miles round trip, 500-foot elevation gain. Moderate. Contact: John Barron, johnbarron@sympatico.ca, (613) 828-2296.

• Mar. 26: Hike or Snowshoe Wellesley Island State Park. The Park’s trails offer a variety of woodland, wetlands and river view walks. Deer, birds and other critters abound. We will explore the trails and visit the Minna Anthony Common Nature Center to warm up. Bring lunch and binoculars. Three to six miles round trip, depending on the will of the group. Easy to moderate. Contact: Marianne Hebert, hebertm@potsdam.edu, 265-0756
