The Adirondack Mountain Club Laurentian Chapter is hosting eight upcoming outings to which the public may join. Those interested in partaking have to contact the person listed with each event beforehand.

Oct. 18: Cycling the Amish loop from Rensselaer Falls through Kendrew Corners and Mud Lake into Heuvelton for a lunch break. Return by River Road. 28 miles. Moderate. Contact Tom Ortmeyer, tortmeye@gmail.com or 265-8219.

Oct. 19: Hike the Deer Pond loop, 7 or 8 miles. Moderate. Contact Armond Spencer, 379-1383.

Oct. 25: Hike Johns Brook Lodge area in the High Peaks near Keene Valley. 8 miles, possible short climbs to excellent views. Historical commentary. Strenuous. Contact Tom Wheeler, northflow@gmail.com or 386-2482.

Oct. 25: Back country trail work. Help build and maintain local trails, including Stone Valley, The Red Sandstone Trail, etc. From very easy to very strenuous, depending on one's choice of task. Meet at 8 a.m. at 224 Lenny Road, Potsdam. Contact Mark Simon, simonm@potsdam.edu or 267-3130.

Oct. 26: Azure Mountain hike and rock work, enjoy the views before relocating rocks hikers have carried up the mountain. Bring along two cloth or canvas bags to carry the rocks. 2.5 miles round trip, 900 ft climb. Moderate. Contact Mike McLean, mpmclean@twcny.rr.com or 262-2564.

Sometime around Oct. 26: Malone snow geese return. Date depends on when the birds come in. Any date change will be posted on www.adklaurentian.org. Short easy walk and watch the spectacular evening display as the snow geese settle on the Salmon River. Dinner on the way home. Contact Ann Spencer, 379-1383.

Nov. 12: Wednesday walk in the woods. Meet at 9 a.m. by the Village of Potsdam water tower on the Clarkson hill campus. Easy, 2 miles or less but may be wet. Contact Dick Mooers, rmooers@twcny.rr.com or 854-4186.

Nov. 16: Laurentian Chapter fall potluck dinner with speaker SLU head of special collections Mark McMurray discussing Adirondack fiction. Presbyterian church, Canton, 5 to 9 p.m. Contact Tom Wheeler, northflow@gmail.com or 386-2482.
