ADK Club hosting free outings in St. Lawrence County and beyond through summer

The Adirondack Mountain Club Laurentian Chapter is hosting a variety of free events in the coming weeks. Those interested must contact the listed number before joining an event.

Sat., April 4 - Lampson Falls. The group will ski, snowshoe or hike, depending on conditions. Two miles. Easy. Contact Ann and Armond Spencer at 379-1383.

Sun., April 12 - Wellesley Island State Park. The group will explore the park's extensive trail system with river views. Six miles, moderate. Contact John Barron at 613-828-2296 or johnbarron@sympatico.ca.

Sun., Apr 19 - Spring pot luck. First Presbyterian Church, Potsdam, 5 to 8 p.m. Bring a dish to share. Supper will be followed by a presentation: “Backpacking in New Mexico's Gila Wilderness.” Nick Grippe and fellow students from the SUNY Potsdam Wilderness Education program will recount their adventures during a three-week expedition. Sat., April 25 - Everton Falls cleanup. Meet at Everton Falls canoe launch parking (county Route 14 out of St. Regis Falls) at 10:30 a.m. to collect roadside trash and prune trails. Bring trash bag or pruning clippers. About 1 mile of walking, mostly on level roadside or undulating woods trail. Lunch on rock wall above falls. Canoeing possible. Sat., May 2 - Bear Mountain hike. This will be a loop beginning in the Cranberry Lake campground. Tree foliage will still be sparse with decent views from the lookout. 5.5 miles round-trip. Elevation gain 677 feet. Moderate. Contact Marianne Hebert at 265-0756 or hebertm@potsdam.edu.

Sat., May 23 - Hike Tabletop Mountain. One of the shorter and easier trailless High Peaks, rising above the Van Hoevenberg Trail to Marcy. 8 miles round-trip, 2,500 feet of gain, strenuous. Contact John Barron at 613-828-2296 or johnbarron@sympatico.ca.

Sat., June 6 - Bicycle Higley Flow Loop. This strenuous 30-mile trip starts in Potsdam, up state Route 56 to Colton and then on the Gulf Road to Higley Flow State Park for lunch. The return trip has several scenic options. Contact Tom Ortmeyer at 265-8219 or tortmeye@gmail.com.

Sat., June 13 - Robert Moses State Park, Massena bicycle and hike. Group will explore the park on bicycles and hike some of the Nature Center trails. View Eisenhower Lock and the Hawkins Point Visitor Center. 10 to 20 miles of cycling and 1 to 2 miles walking. Relatively flat easy terrain. Possible beach visit or camping that evening. Weekend of June 20 to 21 - Grace Peak celebration. In 2014, East Dix, a High Peak, was renamed Grace Peak. The Adironack 46ers are organizing a celebration in North Hudson, with special guests, entertainment, food and drink, camping, and more.
