Adirondack Mountain Club Laurentian Chapter offers variety of outings this summer

The Laurentian Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club will offer several summer outings ranging from easy to strenuous.

Plenty of water, food and protection from the sun and bugs are recommended for all trips.

Canoe and kayak rentals are available for paddling trips, but participants will need the ability to transport the boat to the site. Bicycle trips require a helmet.

• July 6, Algonquin Peak Climb, second highest state peak at 5,114 ft, 7 mi round trip, 3,000 foot elevation gain. Bring layers or windbreaker. Very Strenuous. Trip leader: Brian Baston at 600-1282 or brian.b.goode@gmail.com.

• July 13, Bicycle the Sabattis Loop, ride to start from scenic overlooks of Tupper Lake, follow Circle Road past Sabbatis Bog and out to Little Tupper Lake. About 20 miles, plenty of options for exploring. Moderate. Trip leader: Tom Ortmeyer, 265-8219, tortmeye@gmail.com.

• July 20, “Two for One” trip to High Rock Hike one way, paddle the other, meet for lunch at High Rock overlooking Oswegatchie River. Approximately 3 to 4 miles, mostly level trip. Moderate. • July 21, 1000 Islands paddle near Ivy Lea, Ontario. Paddle St Lawrence River near 1000 Islands Bridge. Lunch and swim. Life jackets, bailer, buoyant heaving line, and a whistle required. • July 28, Cycling the Raquette River, Potsdam to Madrid to Raymondville. 35 miles. Strenuous. Trip leader: John Barron at 613-828-2296 or johnbarron@sympatico.ca.

• Aug. 3, Paddle Dead Creek off Raquette. Fairly easy. Trip leader: Armond Spencer 379-1383.

• Aug. 10 Blue Ridge East Bushwhack via Dishrag Pond, #99 on Hundred Highest list. Start on new section of NP Trail leading north from Wakely Dam, head northwest to intersect Browns Brook and Dishrag Pond. About 12 miles round trip. Prepared for thick bushwhacking. Very strenuous. • Aug. 24, Climb Wright Peak from Adirondak Loj, 6.8 miles round trip, 2400 foot elevation gain. Very strenuous. Trip leader: Tom Ortmeyer at 265-8219 or tortmeye@gmail.com.

• Aug. 25, Rock Dunder, 5 mile loop hike leading to a high point overlooking Ontario’s Rideau Waterway. Varied terrain, interesting forest, water views. Chance for a swim. Option to continue for short walking tour of Jones Falls lock station of Rideau Canal. Supper at dining room of historic Hotel Kenney. Fairly easy. 1.5 hours’ drive from Ogdensburg Bridge. • Sept. 7, Paddle Middle Saranac Lake to Lake Flower, annual “14 Miler” for sea kayakers and canoeists. Cross Middle Saranac, through hand-powered Upper Locks, through islands on Lower Saranac, down river again to Oseetah Lake and Lake Flower. Very strenuous. • Sept. 8, Street and Nye, challenging hike, 8 miles, 2,000 foot climb. Very strenuous. Trip leader: John Barron at 613-828-2296 or johnbarron@sympatico.ca.
