Acoustic group 'Della Mae,' Canal Street Band, Norwood Brass Fireman on tap for Norwood Village Green series

NORWOOD -- Upcoming Norwood Village Green concerts will include the acoustic Della Mae July 18, The Canal Street Band July 21 and the Brass Fireman July 25, all at 7 p.m.

The Norwood Brass Fireman band has performed at two presidential inaugurals, the opening ceremony of the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, and the Indianapolis 500.

With three voices, fifty five strings and a pair of cow bones, The Canal Street String Band puts a new spin on old American music. Fiddle tunes, cowboy songs, mountain music, western swing, and originals make up the group’s repertoire.

The band creates three-part harmonies on banjo, fiddles, mandolins, string bass, dobra, guitar, and octave mandolin.

The all female acoustic group Della Mae will perform Thursday, July 18, rather than the originally scheduled Frankie Gavin and DeDannan.

Boston-based Della Mae released their first album, “I Built This Heart,” in 2011. The group recently participated in the State Department’s American Music Abroad program as cultural ambassadors.

“The identity that we've developed as a band is a melting pot of our different personalities and backgrounds," said founder Kimber Ludiker.

Ludiker handpicked musicians from all over the country, choosing band members Celia Woodsmith, singer; Courtney Hartman, guitarist; Shelby Means, bassist; and Jenni Lyn Gardner, mandolin.

Admission to concerts is free, but a “pass the bucket” will be held.
