RUSSELL -- The Russell Theater, 4 Pestle St., will present a show by The Acoustic Brothers at 7 p.m. on May 17.
The Acoustic Brothers are Austin Scott (lead guitar), Alex Hammond (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), Jacob Barney (bass), and Jeff Mott (drums). Their rock concerts feature the music of the 60s and 70s, with tunes from other decades, as well.
The band traces its beginnings to an event at the Madrid-Waddington gym where Austin and Alex shared one guitar that they passed back and forth. Jeff and Jacob started playing with them soon after and the band was born.
Initially they favored tunes by The Beatles. Over 100 shows later, their song list now includes the work of a wide variety of artists featuring tunes such as Stairway to Heaven, Sweet Home Alabama, Hotel California, Folsom Prison Blues and Free Bird. They have also developed their own song-writing business, called TABs (short for The Acoustic Brothers).
There is no admission charge for this concert, but donations will be accepted at the door. Light refreshments and a 50-50 raffle will be available.
