OGDENSBURG -- The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary presents the “About Boating Safely” course from 5 to 9 p.m. June 6 and 7 at the United Helpers Mosaic Center, 100 Ford St.

Participants must attend both nights. The “About Boating Safely” certificate and card is awarded at the end of the second night and is valid in New York State and all other states, and is easily replaced if lost or damaged.

This course is required in New York State for anyone 14 years old and over who operates a personal watercraft (jet ski). Motor boat operators born on or after May 1, 1996 must have a boating safety certificate and be at least 10 years of age.

Classes are taught by local Auxiliary members who have years of experience teaching boating safety and interacting with students. You will get all your questions answered about operating safely on local rivers and lakes in the North Country. Students will be able to see and check out various safety equipment items and will receive the course text book and federal and state rule books to keep as references.

Cost is $35 per person; a family plan is available. Participants must preregister by calling Gardner’s Furniture and Flooring at 315-393-6488, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
