Lynn Brown, the executive vice president for WPBS-TV, will preview “The Makers” for AAUW-St. Lawrence County Branch members and guests Tuesday, Feb. 12.

CANTON -- The two North Country AAUW branches are partnering with WPBS-TV in Watertown to underwrite “The Makers” series. A discussion on the series will be held Tuesday, Feb. 12.

WBPS is filming interviews with North Country women, or “makers,” that will air for the series and during Women’s History Month programming in March.

Lynn Brown, the Executive Vice President for WPBS-TV, will preview the series for AAUW-St. Lawrence County Branch members and guests on Tuesday, Feb. 12 from 4 to 6 p.m. upstairs at the newly reopened TAUNY building, 53 Main St.

Several local “makers” will be introduced and refreshments and desserts will be served.

“The Makers” series originated from the premise that over the last half century, the work of millions of women has altered virtually every aspect of American culture. The series tells the story of women whose pioneering contributions continue to shape the world in which we live.

Local “makers” include Barbara Gordon, the former president of SLC Literacy of Northern New York Coordinator; Donna Seymour, Potsdam, a long-time community activist; Ashley Keys, of the Renewal House/Crisis Intervention; and Nafeesa Johnson, the SUNY Canton Student Government President.

“The Makers” will premier on WBBS-TV on Tuesday, Feb. 26 from 9 to 11 p.m.

Visit makers.com to look for stories from “The Makers” including Judy Blume, Carol Burnett, Katie Couric, Ellen DeGeneres, Geraldine Ferraro, Billie Jean King, Maya Lin, Condoleezza Rice, Faith Ringgold and Gloria Steinem.
