POTSDAM – The book discussion group sponsored by the St. Lawrence County Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) will be discussing The Empire of Illusion: The End of Literacy and the Triumph of Spectacle by Chris Hedges, Wednesday, Oct. 12 at noon at the Potsdam Public Library.
He juxtaposes facts to argue that the majority of Americans now are retreating from a world of reality based in print and reason to one of false certainty and magic.
The book for discussion next month, Nov. 9, will be The Death of Josseline: Immigration Stories from the Arizona-Mexican Borderlands by Margaret Regan.
For more information, call 265-7230. The public is invited and a brown bag lunch is encouraged.
