CANTON -- The St. Lawrence University chapter of American Association of University Professors will host guest speaker Steven Salaita, who will deliver a lecture at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 27, in Eben Holden at St. Lawrence University. The event is free and open to the public.
His lecture, “Academic Freedom, Palestine, and the Demands of Civility,” will explore how notions of civility function in current debates around academic freedom. He will pay special attention to the role of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in shaping various forms of campus repression in the United States.
Salaita was one of nine people named to the Chronicle of Higher Education’s “2014 Influence List,” which highlights academic newsmakers who, according to the Chronicle, “shook up higher education by organizing, by speaking out, by pushing limits, and sometimes just by doing their jobs.” He is author of six books, including his most recent publication Israel's Dead Soul (2011).
