The annual 4-H Shooting Sports Program will soon be offered for young people interested in shooting, conservation, firearm safety, archery, wildlife identification, forestry and outdoor skills.
The program meets at the Norfolk Rod and Gun Club and occasionally at the Extension Learning Farm in Canton. Ages 9-11 will work with air rifles and archery, while ages 12-19 will also use .22 cal. rifles and shotguns. Parents are encouraged to get involved.
Instruction includes basic marksmanship, range procedures, maintenance of firearms, map and compass, GPS and basic outdoor skills.
The program schedule is April 6, 6-8 p.m.; April 13, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.; April 21, 9 a.m. - noon; April 27, 6-8 p.m.; May 5, 9 a.m. - noon; May 11, 6-8 p.m.; May 19, 9 a.m. - noon; and May 26, 9 a.m. - noon.
Cost is $30 for ages 9-11 and $40 for ages 12-19, and includes necessary memberships, insurance, ammo, targets and facility use. To reserve a space, call 379-9192.
