CANTON -- Once again this year, Cornell Cooperative Extension of St. Lawrence County is providing an eight-week 4-H shooting sports program during April and May for youth 12 to 19 years old, starting April 6.
Under the supervision of certified 4-H shooting sports instructors, youth will gain practical experience in firearm safety while practicing on ranges at the Norfolk Rod and Gun Club and the Extension Learning Farm in Canton with .22 caliber rifles, shotguns and archery equipment.
Instruction will include firearm safety, basic marksmanship, range procedures, and care of firearms. Students will also be introduced to archery, map and compass, GPS and basic outdoor skills.
Registrants will be enrolled in both 4-H and the Norfolk Rod and Gun Club. The cost is $45, which includes membership fees, equipment and supplies. Participants will use firearms and bows provided by Cornell Cooperative Extension. Parents are encouraged to participate.
The schedule of programs is:
• Saturday, April 6 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Norfolk Rod and Gun Club
• Friday, April 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Extension Learning Farm
• Saturday, April 20 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Norfolk Rod and Gun Club
• Saturday, April 27 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Norfolk Rod and Gun Club
• Friday, May 3 from 6 to 8 pm at the Extension Learning Farm
• Saturday, May 11 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Norfolk Rod and Gun Club
• Friday, May 17 from 6 to 8 pm at the Extension Learning Farm
• Saturday, May 25 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Norfolk Rod and Gun Club
